Project Overview
Hyperreal is an audio-visual performance of experimental electronic music, generative audio-reactive visuals, and AI-based tools and processes, commenting upon the concept of “Intelligence" as it manifests in the digital realm. Inquiring into the perceived sentience behind digital systems, the show highlights a mysterious paradox: it is material Earth — silicon and metal — that forms the nerves of a digital system. Coursing through them is the primal force of Electricity, abstracted into data and logic which we call computing. It is the giddying acceleration and complexity of these processes of computing that we ultimately term A.I. Rather than attempting to answer “Can AI ever be conscious?”, our work takes the audience through the immersive worlds and processes of analog matter and circuitry, bits, code, data, and core AI principles; embodying the inquiry into a sensorial experience."
Expected Impact
Contemporary discourse around Technology and the advent of AI has reached a saturated culmination. Amidst the chatter, most commentaries in the public sphere, be they critical or celebratory, focus their lens only on the technical, professional, social or the ethical implications. Our focus under Āyāhi has been to explore technology driven new media, but with our gaze towards Indian knowledge, culture, and heritage – where and how can it assume a place within India’s artistic arc? This inquiry needs a deep research driven foundation – it would not be enough to make direct and superficial connections by translating styles, stories into this new medium. We recognize the necessity to go deeper into both domains and construct something from there, a new perspective creating new artistic experiences in new mediums. This is the core impetus behind hyperreal.
Applicant Background
Āyāhi is an experiential art atelier combining light, sound, and data into multi-sensorial experiences. From generative digital art and interactive installations to immersive audiovisual spaces and theatrical productions, our work seeks to transcend and redefine artistic experience, using technology as a creative tool. Through technology-based new media, our works often explore abstract themes and conceptual narratives that don’t easily fit into conventional or traditional art forms, and embody them as multi sensorial experiences. The founders, Mrityunjay and Vinay, are creative professionals from two diverse fields — music/creative art, and technology/digital art, respectively. Their practices converge at Āyāhi, resulting in bespoke audio-visual experiences.
