Project Description

‘Miss u’ is a short fiction film about a middle-aged blue collar immigrant and his wife who try to be intimate on text, but cannot, as they’ve grown apart over the years.

Expected Impact

Blue collar immigrants from India trade control over their lives for finances that can help provide for their families and possibly climb economic strata. One such opportunity cost is the inability to see their families for years at a time. Many fundamentally lose touch with their loved ones. Most cannot see their parents’ in their dying moments. The project sheds light on this, and deglamorizes the life of expats. My hope is that this brings about a behavioural change in viewers. I’d like to increase their understanding and empathy towards the sacrifices that come when there are missing systems in one’s own country.

Applicant Background

I have been a director-writer in Mumbai for over seven years, and have worked in the documentary space for two years prior to this. Most recently, in 2025, I directed a web series within a month and half’s time frame. My experience has given me a solid understanding of the production, post-production, and release pipeline. Moreover, I can head and execute a film with confidence. At the same time, I’ve built a network of talented crew and cast who can help bring this project to fruition. Additionally, I’ve also seen the life of my film’s protagonist first-hand during my time in Dubai as a child. Even then, their pain and sacrifice was blatant and apparent. This will allow me to treat the film with the sensitivity and insight that it deserves.
