Project Description

Fasola Fort is a soft, immersive installation inspired by childhood forts—a space for rest, healing, and belonging that explores porous boundaries between the inner self and the outside world.

Expected Impact

Fasola Fort nurtures a culture of care, imagination, and emotional safety—values often sidelined in India's hyper-productive, overstimulated environments. By centering softness, play, and sensory experience, it challenges dominant cultural narratives around strength and resilience. The project creates inclusive, immersive spaces where visitors can rest, reflect, and reconnect with their inner worlds. Locally, it encourages intergenerational engagement and honors craft traditions like crochet through contemporary, participatory forms. Globally, it adds to conversations around trauma-informed spaces, mental health, and the politics of rest. I hope to inspire more porous and tender approaches to art and living, where vulnerability is strength, and care is cultural infrastructure.

Applicant Background

I bring direct experience in producing large-scale, site-responsive installations through Transmutations (2025), commissioned by the India Art Fair Artist-in-Residence Programme and supported by SoulTree. Made from candy-wrapper yarn, and textile surplus, the work transformed discarded materials into a sculptural canopy inspired by the Nilgiri Hills. Created in collaboration with the Women’s Strength community, it reflected on ecological renewal, care-based labor, and collective resilience, core themes that continue in Fasola Fort. The proposed project also builds on my residency at Hampi Art Lab, where the idea for Fasola Fort first emerged. My experience working in remote environments like SA Ladakh (2024) has equipped me to adapt sensitively to diverse landscapes and timelines. Across these contexts, I’ve developed a practice rooted in collaboration, material transformation, and the quiet power of soft interventions, skills that are essential to bringing Fasola Fort to life.
