/14336/ is an immersive live multimedia project that is produced entirely on visuals created using Gameboy camera and soundscapes natively produced on Gameboy systems.
With this project I hope to encourage people to look at alternative methods and tools to push the envelope of new media further. I’m certain many from the potential audience would share the same history and relationship that I share with these aging systems. And to see them used for a creative and productive purpose would be informative to the cultural landscape.
In the past, my experiments with new media have included a multi-channel video installation made using projection mapping titled ‘b-side’ which explored the history and social reaction to the Acid House scene in the late 80’s and early 90’s. It was produced during my residency at Gasworks with the help of Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation grant. Recently, during my last solo ‘Super Bardo’ at Method gallery I produced an installation setup of five CRT TVs connected to a camcorder that displayed a pixelated version of the viewer on the screens while playing an almost disorienting buzzing audio feedback generated from the live feed in real-time. The idea was the dissolution of the self in an 8-bit dimension which is in tune with the broader idea of the show (the afterlife journey of Mario after he dies in the video game) For this particular project, I have been experimenting with Nanoloop on my personal Gameboy and understanding the program. With the help of this grant, I can further expand the scope of this new medium to the idea outlined in the pitch document.
